Often overlooked Tasmania, Australia's largest Island, tells a thousand stories of convicts, farmers, bushrangers, writers and painters. Rugged landscapes, awe inspiring coastlines and land cleared by Aboriginal people then settled by European farmers today features Georgian villages and gracious homesteads.

Day 1.

Explore Hobart on a historic walking tour or wander historic Salamanca Place and Battery Point, visit the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. If you want some adventure take an effortless cycle from the 1200 metre summit of Mount Wellington.

Day 2.

The Heritage Highway may only cover 198 kilometres (123 miles) but your journey takes you 200 years through time.  Picturesque Georgian villages – Oatlands, Ross, Campbell Town, Evandale and Longford, home to the national rose garden and Woolmer Estate, Australia’s most intact pioneer farm,remain in many ways as they once were when horse drawn carriages took days to reach the capital city. Overnight in Longford.

Day 3.

Explore Launceston and the Tamar Valley - walk Cataract Gorge, dine out in some of the State’s best restaurants.

Day 4.

St Helens is the game fishing capital of Tasmania or you can head further north to the granite boulder covered beaches of the Bay of Fires.

Day 5.

Drop in at Freycinet Marine Farm for a morning oyster tour and then head to Bicheno for a succulent seafood lunch, and then explore the forest pools of Douglas Apsley National Park.  In Bicheno, join an evening eco-friendly fairy penguin tour right on the beach. 

Day 6.

Spend the day wandering Freycinet National Park –  home to Wineglass Bay, Hazards Beach and inquisitive wallabies.

Day 7.

Try the best strawberries on the Island at Kate’s Berry Farm, just south of Swansea and some of the fine wines at our coastal vineyards.

Day 8.

Head South along the coast to Triabunna.  Take a ferry to Maria Island National Park – home to wallabies, pademelons, kangaroos and Cape Barren geese.  Then on to Hobart via Orford.
